Description

A clear, colorless, corrosive liquid with a characteristic pungent, acrid odor. It is miscible with water, alcohols, and ethers.

Uses

Production of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) for diapers, polyacrylic acid (PAA) for water treatment, detergents, and as a precursor for acrylate esters (butyl acrylate, 2-EHA).

Benefits

High reactivity due to the double bond and acid group; provides excellent polymer chain growth and cross-linking capabilities.

Safety, Compliance & Notes

Thermal Conductivity 20W/m·K.
Electrical Conductivity 500S/cm
Heat of Formation -383.8kJ/mol
Heat of Vaporization 45.6kJ/mol
Structure (CH_{2}=CHCOOH)
CAS Number 79-10-7.
EINECS Number 201-177-9.
Storage & Packaging Recommendations: Store between 15°C and 25°C. If it freezes, it must be thawed very carefully with tempered water (max 35°C) to avoid localized overheating and polymerization. Never use steam for thawing. Packaging: Polyethylene-lined steel drums, HDPE drums, or stainless steel ISO tanks.
Product Stewardship Acrylic acid is susceptible to violent runaway polymerization. It must be inhibited (typically with MEHQ) and stored under an atmosphere containing 5–21% oxygen.
Note Note: Always monitor inhibitor levels. If the liquid freezes, the inhibitor may be excluded from the crystals, creating a high-risk zone upon thawing.
Notice This profile is based on 2026 industrial standards. You must consult the Official Safety Data Sheet (SDS) from your specific supplier before any physical handling.
