Synthetic Resin Adhesives

Synthetic resin adhesives are engineered bonding formulations based on manufactured polymers such as polyvinyl acetate, acrylic, phenolic, urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde, epoxy or related resins. Depending on the chemistry, they may be supplied as water-based emulsions, solvent-based liquids, powders, films or reactive systems. They are widely selected for woodworking, furniture, plywood, laminating, packaging and construction because they provide consistent wetting, dependable bond strength and efficient processing. Performance—including cure mechanism, water resistance, heat resistance, open time and final durability—varies by resin type and grade, so the product technical data sheet and safety data sheet must be used for final selection.

Technical Specifications
Absorption Water absorption varies by cured resin and grade; not a single fixed value.
Acid Value Not applicable to the product class; formulation-dependent.
Volatility Generally low for water-based grades; solvent-based grades may be volatile.
Packing Available Commonly supplied in bottles, pouches, buckets, cans, drums or IBCs; sizes vary by manufacturer.
Melting Point Not applicable to the product class; thermoplastic grades soften over a range and thermosetting grades decompose rather than melt.
Appearance Typically white to off-white viscous liquid for water-based grades; powders, films and other colours are also available.
Odour Mild characteristic odour; solvent odour may occur in solvent-based grades.
Molecular Weight Not applicable; variable polymer molecular-weight distribution and formulated mixture.
Boiling Point Not applicable as a single value; water-based grades may begin boiling near 100 °C, while other formulations vary.
Distillation Range Not applicable; formulation-dependent.
Freezing Point Typically near 0 °C for water-based emulsions; formulation-dependent and protect from freezing unless the TDS states otherwise.
Specific Gravity Typically about 1.0–1.2 at 20–25 °C for many water-based grades; verify the product TDS.
Refractive Index Not routinely specified for formulated adhesives; formulation-dependent.
Flash Point Water-based grades are commonly non-flammable; solvent-based grades have formulation-specific flash points.
Specific Heat Not routinely specified; formulation-dependent.
Autoignition Temp Not determined for the product class; formulation-dependent.

Description

A formulated synthetic-polymer adhesive for strong, durable bonding of wood and other compatible substrates; available in water-based, solvent-based, hot-melt and reactive grades.

Uses

Used for furniture, carpentry, joinery, plywood and blockboard manufacture, laminating, veneering, edge banding, panel assembly, packaging, flooring, construction and repairs. Suitable grades bond wood, plywood, MDF, particle board, laminates, veneers, cork, paper and other compatible porous materials.

Benefits

Strong bonding, quick setting, easy application, good coverage, lasting durability, moisture resistance and a clean finish.

Safety, Compliance & Notes

Thermal Conductivity Not routinely specified; formulation-dependent.
Electrical Conductivity Not routinely specified; formulation-dependent.
Heat of Formation Not applicable to a formulated product class.
Heat of Vaporization Not applicable to a formulated product class.
Structure Polymeric resin mixture; structure varies by resin chemistry and formulation.
CAS Number No single CAS number; formulated mixture. Component CAS numbers are listed in the product SDS.
EINECS Number No single EC/EINECS number; formulated mixture.
Storage & Packaging Store sealed in the original container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from heat and direct sunlight. Protect water-based grades from freezing. Keep incompatible materials separate and use within stated shelf life.
Product Stewardship Minimize waste, prevent discharge to drains or soil, and dispose of uncured adhesive and contaminated packaging according to the SDS and local regulations. Cured material may require different disposal handling.
Note Category-level data; exact composition and properties vary substantially by resin family and commercial grade.
Notice Category-level information only. Properties vary by resin type and grade. Confirm all specifications using the manufacturer’s current TDS and SDS.
