Description
A clear, colorless, corrosive liquid with a characteristic pungent, acrid odor. It is miscible with water, alcohols, and ethers.
Uses
Production of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) for diapers, polyacrylic acid (PAA) for water treatment, detergents, and as a precursor for acrylate esters (butyl acrylate, 2-EHA).
Benefits
High reactivity due to the double bond and acid group; provides excellent polymer chain growth and cross-linking capabilities.
Safety, Compliance & Notes
| Thermal Conductivity | 20W/m·K. |
| Electrical Conductivity | 500S/cm |
| Heat of Formation | -383.8kJ/mol |
| Heat of Vaporization | 45.6kJ/mol |
| Structure | (CH_{2}=CHCOOH) |
| CAS Number | 79-10-7. |
| EINECS Number | 201-177-9. |
| Storage & Packaging | Recommendations: Store between 15°C and 25°C. If it freezes, it must be thawed very carefully with tempered water (max 35°C) to avoid localized overheating and polymerization. Never use steam for thawing. Packaging: Polyethylene-lined steel drums, HDPE drums, or stainless steel ISO tanks. |
| Product Stewardship | Acrylic acid is susceptible to violent runaway polymerization. It must be inhibited (typically with MEHQ) and stored under an atmosphere containing 5–21% oxygen. |
| Note | Note: Always monitor inhibitor levels. If the liquid freezes, the inhibitor may be excluded from the crystals, creating a high-risk zone upon thawing. |
| Notice | This profile is based on 2026 industrial standards. You must consult the Official Safety Data Sheet (SDS) from your specific supplier before any physical handling. |
